About JammUnity

JammUnity is an online communiy (maybe even a social network) based on the philosophies of Jamm. Personally, I am having trouble explaining those philosophies, but Siva might have more success at that. While Jamm has a basis of music, this site embraces any topics its members are interested in, with a focus on:
A) Community/Collaboration
B) Education
C) Inspiration
D) Creation (which can loop back to collaboration in A).

Getting Started

JammUnity is based on the Elgg platform, which is based on these three major components:

  • Users - individual people that have registered an account, and created a profile. This is where you can get to know members of the community better. You can 'friend' other members to stay contact with what they are up to. Browse the list of users.
  • Communities - groups of users that have gathered around a particular topic. Each community can have all the resources a user can - text, images, audio, video, and even blogs and forum discussions etc too. You can become a member of communities, browse their resources, contribute resources and interact with other members. Take a look at the growing list of communities.
  • Tags - almost every peice of content on JammUnity can have a list of tags that describe it. This is great for discovering things you are interested in - tags are links you can click on to find all the other resources on the site that also contain that keyword. This has many jamm applications - e.g. in a click, find any user, music, blog post or community related to 'guitar'. Therefore, when adding content, be sure to tag it - often this is as easy as clicking on the relevant tags from a list. Take a look at the Tag Cloud - a list of all tags where the more popular it is, the larger the text size.
Take a look around and by all means, consider contributing and interacting.

Other Things to Try:

Take a look at what the Elgg platform is capable of (a reasonably easy to read list). Also see more information on Elgg, including a video tour (77mb WMV) and a handy guide on 'Using Elgg'.

Why not check out what people are saying right now?

View your profile! Your portfolio is the main way people find out about you. You can edit your details and choose exactly what you want to share with whom. Through your profile, you can share a variety of information: text, images, audio, video, and even blogs etc too. But don't let that scare you - a user profile of your name and a brief description is a great start.
